It’s Day 2 of midweek matches…. for some reason, midweek games feel a little extra special. Probably because we still have weekend games to look forward to. I guess sometimes you can have your cake and eat it too.

🔴🔵 Merseyside Mayhem: Liverpool vs. Everton

Welcome to the 246th edition of English football’s feistiest family feud — and it’s showing no signs of letting up.

  • History on the Line: Liverpool has 99 wins over their blue neighbors. One more, and they hit the century mark. Expect Anfield (and my cousin Zach) to be very loud about that.

  • Farwell Cards This derby holds the record for most red cards in a Premier League fixture — 25 total. The first sending off between these two was in 1896, when Everton’s Alf Milward was sent off before red cards were even officially a thing. But to be fair, he said he was provoked. (I think Curtis Jones said that last time as well)

  • Moyes’ Mission: Since returning to the Toffees, David Moyes is on a 9-match unbeaten streak. But he’s still chasing that elusive W at Anfield — 0 wins in 19 tries. But Anfield hasn’t seen him since his glow up.

  • Anfields Assists: Liverpool has scored at least two goals in 12 straight home games. They’re sitting top of the table and looking to bury Everton’s recent good vibes under a pile of goals (and possibly another red card or two).

This one has everything: history, hatred, catchy music… “You’ll never walk alone”...unless you’ve been shown a red that is.

⚽️ Matchday Preview:

  • Man City vs. Leicester:
City looks to keep their Champions League hopes alive, currently holding a precarious fifth place just ahead of Newcastle and Brighton. A win should be pretty doable against bottom-dwellers Leicester, who sit 19th and haven’t won a game since January.

  • Brighton vs. Aston Villa:
Both teams are in the fight for European spots and trying to separate from the pack. Brighton haven’t lost in their last five PL outings but are coming off a heartbreaking FA Cup loss to Forest on penalties. Villa, meanwhile, are on a six-game unbeaten streak across all competitions. This is their first Premier League match since March 8th — but with a win, they could leapfrog their rivals. Huge.

  • Newcastle vs. Brentford:
Newcastle, fresh off their Carabao Cup triumph and a secured Conference League playoff spot, face a Brentford side eager to climb the mid-table ranks. Expect a competitive clash at St. James' Park.

  • Bournemouth vs. Ipswich:
Bournemouth are licking their wounds after crashing out of the FA Cup quarterfinals to City and now shift focus to finishing the league strong. They’ll fancy their chances at home against Ed Sheeran’s Ipswich — who’ve looked more Divide than Multiply lately. Unless Ed’s got a late cameo planned, the Tractor Boys may struggle to turn the tune in their favor. (Please don’t unsubscribe.)

  • Southampton vs. Crystal Palace:
Southampton are sitting on just 9 points this season and are 9 losses away from setting the record for the lowest point total in Premier League history. The current record is 11 points, set by Derby County in 2007/08. Unfortunately for the Saints, they’re up against a confident Crystal Palace side that just booked a spot in the FA Cup semifinal and has a real shot at the club’s first-ever piece of silverware.

That it that’s all folks! Tomorrow we have the last of our midweek matchups with the solo Chelsea Tottenham game. Look for lots of Mourinho memes and comments about drastically falling short of expectations. Adios!
